SAWYER AND JOHNSON GET BIG WINS ON MODIFIED TRIPLE CROWN NIGHT AT THE DIRT TRACK

SAWYER AND JOHNSON GET BIG WINS ON MODIFIED TRIPLE CROWN NIGHT AT THE DIRT TRACK

A pair of big races for the modified divisions highlighted a great night of racing on The Dirt Track at KCRP Friday Night, March 22nd.

The A-Mods started their 2019 race season at the Dirt Track with round #1 of The Holders A/C Triple Crown, A three races series that pays $1500 to win and bonus money for 2nd and 3rd for the races on March 22nd, June 7th, and September 7th.  After a first lap first turn pile up, the 25 lap feature got underway, with the 15B car of Brad Pounds jumping out to an early lead. Steve Drake in the 96A machine, who started 8th, was able to track Pounds down and take the lead, but the 198 of Robby Sawyer was coming and coming fast. Sawyer started in 11th, reeled in Drake, putting heavy pressure on the dirt track veteran. Drake jumped the cushion on lap 22, opening the door for Sawyer. Sawyer seized the opportunity to take the lead and win the race, bagging a $1,500 payday. The 22D of Ryan Daves, 96A Steve Drake, 41 Danny Lauer, and 13 Jerry Flippo rounded out the top five.

In B-Mod action, it was a different tale. Starting on the outside front row, which was the preferred line on starts and restarts this night, The 20s car of Kevin Johnson took the lead coming out of turn two on the opening salvo. He held off a very fast 83 car of Jason Nation to secure his first victory and take the points lead in the Motor City GMC United Series. The Motor City GMC United Series is a 6 race mini-series with 3 races at The Dirt Track and 3 races at Bakersfield Speedway. Motor City GMC has provided a $5,000 points fund and will give a new GM Crate motor to the winner of the 6 race series.  The 83 of Jason Nation, 16 Gary Dutton, 51G Gavin Manning, and M13 Matthew Mayo completed the top five.

The third division to compete on the third- mile that night was the Hobby Stocks. A 14 car field saw the 91 car of Scotty Preast jump out to an early lead and hold off 2018 track champion, Nicholas Johnson to earn the victory.

Also earning wins on Friday Night, March 22nd were Landon King #43 – Junior Mini Dwarfs, Riley Clem #9 – Outlaw Karts, and Jett Yantis #1 – Senior Mini Dwarfs.

The next event at The Dirt track at KCRP will be the King of the West – NARC Fujitsu 410 Wing Sprint Cars and The Bakersfield Hard Tops on Saturday, April 6th. Tickets are on sale now at www.KernRaceway.com
