Gomes Seeks to Close the Gap in Battle of Champions at Kern County Raceway

Bakersfield, CA – In 2022, Jacob Gomes and Jeremy Doss fought down to the last lap of the last race for the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series championship. On June 17th, those two drivers will lock horns again at Kern County Raceway Park (CA) in the “JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC. Wild West Shootout – For Those About to Rock 107” for a $10,000 prize. The two former champions both grabbed three wins apiece last season, but Gomes grabbed the championship by two markers over Doss. The two will square off again at KCRP, where Doss emerged victorious that last time the duo met at the facility, in the “October Classic”.
“I’m really looking forward to having him (Doss) back” Gomes stated. “It’s always fun racing with him. I had a lot of good races with him in the past, and I’m sure this next week is going to be fun with both of us together again.”
The two-time series champion has gotten off to a great start in his championship defense season, grabbing three wins and a second in the first four events. In the battle of former champions, Gomes will seek to narrow the gap, where Doss has a 30 to 17 advantage in head-to-head matchups in the Spears Southwest Tour. But Gomes has a six to four lead over the last 10 events, and he would love to add another rich win to his resume. Can he pull it off on June 17th? Come out to Kern County Raceway Park to find out if the all-time series starts leader can turn the trick.
The “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout – For Those About to Rock 107” for the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series will take place on June 17th and will be a single day event for the Super Late Models, Spears Modified Series, and the Spears Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services. The Super Late Models will race for $10,000, with $800 to start and $1,200 for those on the Spears Frequent Flyer Program. The starting lineup will be set through a Heat race, which will pay $1,000 to the winner, thanks to H&S Body Works and Towing. The Heat lineup will be based off practice times for the series, with a redraw or invert at the front of the field. The LIUNA “Feel the Power” Fireworks Spectacular will also be a part of the evening’s activities.
Celebrating its twenty third season in 2023, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
