Gomes Looks to Continue his Momentum at the 7th Annual Winter Showdown

Bakersfield, CA – Jacob Gomes Fan Page made Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series start #119 pay off to the tune of $10,000 at ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY – ROSEVILLE CA on March 5th. On April 2nd, Gomes would love to make start #120 also pay off in $10,000 greenbacks at Kern County Raceway Park in the Seventh Annual “Winter Showdown”. The 2015 series champion rebounded in 2021, finishing second in the championship standings. He has continued his resurgence in 2022, sitting only three points behind championship leader Jeremy Doss Motorsports as the series enters Round #3.
The victory at All American Speedway was his eighth career win in the SRL, good for sixth on the all-time wins list. But it was his first since 2018, 30 events ago. He has been close to winning on multiple occasions during the streak, finishing second four times. But Gomes hopes the win will start a new streak, finding the #16 in Victory Lane frequently.
“Yes, the win has given our team great additional confidence, finally getting the monkey off our back”, Gomes told the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. “We are hoping to keep this roll of luck with us, coming up on the next races on the schedule.”
Gomes will strive to end another streak at Kern County Raceway Park on April 2nd. Gomes has 23 touring series starts at the ½-mile facility, but he has yet to taste champaign in Victory Lane. He has seven top-five and 14 top-10 results, with a best finish of second twice. The last time was in June of 2021, behind Derek Thorn Racing. He has optimism that this streak will end as well.
“I think we have got a good shot to win” Gomes described. “We have been working hard on both our cars, and I think we have a better chance now more than ever. We just need to have some better luck.”
The Jacob Gomes Racing Team has certainly thrust themselves into championship contention, after leading the 2021 series standings entering Round #5 in 2021. A flat tire with four laps to go cost him the win and the championship lead, but Gomes has turned his poor luck from 2017 through the 2019 seasons around, and should not be overlooked for the crown. His ninth career PFC Brakes Zero Drag Fast Time Award put him second all-time in that category and shows the team has speed as well. The all-time starts leader in the series will now concentrate on the fast ½-mile “D”-shaped oval looking for win #9. It is an opportunity he is thankful for.
I would really like to thank my dad as well as my sponsors; Sunnyvalley Smoked Meats, Arbini Farms, Dell’Osso Family Farms, Frontier Performance Lubricants, Studio 10 Wraps, David’s Racing Products, Valley Pacific Petroleum Services, Reeves Complete Auto Center Inc., Tony Schmitz Truck Repair, Campbell Motorsports, Golden Acres Custom Farming, Earnest Performance Shocks, Fury Racecars, Sal Sigala Jr Photography, and Strange Oval.”
The Seventh Annual “Winter Showdown” at Kern County Raceway Park will take place on April 2nd and pay $10,000 to the winner of the 100-lap event. The SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series will be joined by the SPEARS Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services and the Spears Modified Series. Admission gates will open at 4:00pm with qualifying for all three divisions beginning at 4:15pm. Opening Ceremonies and a Truck Parade roll off at 5:30pm. Qualifying Heat Races start the official racing action at 6:00pm. All three divisions will compete in the Heat Races. 60 lap Feature events for the Modifieds and Pro Late Models will be followed by 100 laps for the Super Late Models.
Celebrating its twenty-second season in 2022, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
