Doss and Lyon Team up for Big October Classic Challenge

Bakersfield, CA – A combination of winners, in Southwest Tour Series history, is about to combine into one effort at the 33rd Annual “Bulwark ‘Fr October Classic 150” at Kern County Raceway Park on October 23rd. 2018 Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series Champion Jeremy Doss will team up with four-time NASCAR Southwest Tour Series winner Bob Lyon to chase October Classic gold and $10,500. Doss will be doing triple duty over the weekend participating in both the SPEARS Manufacturing Pro Late Model Series presented by Sigma Performance Services and the Spears Modified Series.
Doss enters the weekend needing only to start the Pro Late Model race to earn the championship, while a finish of 18th or better will assure his title in the Modifieds. He has made only one start in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series in 2021, with his busy Pro and Modified series schedules. That start was at the “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown 200” at Irwindale Speedway, when he pulled triple duty in his own Super Late Model, Pro Late Model and the Eddie Wilcox owned Modified. He was victorious in all but the Super Late Model, where he fell out while running 10th.
That experience helped Doss prepare for October Classic weekend, as he described, “After racing all three divisions at the All-Star Showdown, the biggest thing I learned was to stay hydrated. I did that at, Irwindale and I never felt fatigued or low on energy.”
Lyon, who has 44 career SRL starts, has had limited appearances in 2021, after getting two Hamke Race Cars & Parts Inc Super Late Models in 2020. The Aqua Dulce driver attempted four events in 2021 and had a best finish of 10th at Kern County Raceway Park in June. The difficulties in working on the car and driving at the track was becoming cumbersome, however, and Lyon decided to reach out to one of the premiere drivers on the West Coast.
“It just became apparent, with limited physical help at the track, that I cannot drive the car and work on it at the track at the same time, without huge effort and difficulty. I wanted my son to take over the driving of the car, but he just started his career in the studios, so he won’t be available enough to drive the car exclusively. Therefore, I asked Jeremy and Mike Doss to work with me for KCRP in October, and possibly Nashville the week after. We will see what we do after that.”
Doss is excited to partner with one of the most historically well know teams in California. The #44 has seen action on both coasts in recent years, and the red throwback scheme from the 2019 October Classic has stuck with the driver over the last two seasons. Doss will be looking for his second SRL Super Late Model victory at the track, after winning four in the Modifieds.
“I’m very excited to be piloting the #44 Lyon owned Hamke at Kern County Raceway Park”, Doss shared. “Even though I haven’t run a Super Late Model at Kern in a while, I feel we will be a threat for the win!”
A stout field of Super Late Models are expected in the final championship race of the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series schedule. The winner could take home $10,500 in the two segmented race, thanks to the Motor City Throwdown Bonus of $3,500. All drivers will be eligible for the bonus, that was offered to beat Derek Thorn. Three positioning Heat Races will proceed the “BulWark ‘FR October Classic 150” The Super Late Models will be joined by the Spears Manufacturing Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services and the Spears Modified Series.
For those unable to attend, catch all the action LIVE at www.SpearsRacing.TV. The event will also air on MAVTV at a time and date to be announced later.
Celebrating its twenty-first season in 2021, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. “The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series…Where the Champions Race”.
