THE OCTOBER CLASSIC IS BACK – BIGGER AND BETTERadmin
BAKERSFIELD, CA – After the return of the legendary “October Classic” at Kern County Raceway in 2018, the iconic event is back again in 2019. For 29 years the “October Classic” was the biggest short track event on the west coast as it culminated the annual race season at Mesa Marin Raceway. Some of the sport’s biggest stars, including Harvick, Busch, Allison, Hornaday, Thirkettle, Carelli and others made the fall event a “must” each and every race season. Now it’s the next generation of stars that are looking to take home the prestigious honor of winning the “October Classic”.
Unlike last years edition, that was spread over two days, the 2019 version of the Bulwark FR October Classic will feature the two top touring series in the western U.S. all in one big night of racing action. On Saturday, October 26th The Spears Southwest Tour Series and The NASCAR K & N Pro Series West will compete on the same night for the first time in the history of Kern County Raceway.
The penultimate event in the NASCAR K & N Pro Series, The NAPA Auto Parts/ENEOS 150 presented by the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame will feature the top young drivers in NASCAR. Including point leader Derek Kraus, Trevor Huddleston, Hailie Deegan, and Jagger Jones. The series makes it’s one and only stop at the high banked half mile on October 26th before heading to Phoenix for the championship race. This year’s race marks the tenth time the NASCAR K & N Pro Series West has competed at KCRP. The last three races have been won by the driver of the iconic #16 NAPA Toyota, Derek Kraus.
The Spears Southwest Tour Series returns to KCRP for their second and final points race at the state-of-the-art half mile. However, this year there will be a few changes to both the cars and format, as it will honor the heritage of the sport. The October 26th “Bulwark FR 100 presented by Traffic Management, Inc.” will feature “throwback” paint schemes, heat races and the fan favorite Trophy Dash, pitting the Top 8 cars in qualifying for 8 laps.
“There’s so much history with the October Classic and it really put west coast racing on the map during its time at Mesa Marin Raceway. What a better way to recognize that history, by ‘stepping back in time’ and celebrating the paint schemes from the past.” stated the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series’ Brian Olsen. “I’m really excited to see the creativity by the teams with what they come up, along with the story behind each throwback paint scheme.”
To go back in time even further, the 2019 October Classic will bring back Heat Races and a Trophy Dash. With support from AKM Maintenance, the winner of each Heat Race (2) will receive $500, as well as the Trophy Dash winner will take home $500 and start from the pole for the “Bulwark FR 100 presented by Traffic Management, Inc.”
